In-Depth Review

As a guy who spends plenty of time gaming and working from home, I recently picked up the SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL Gen 3 keyboard, and I wanted to share my thoughts after using it for a few weeks.

**First Impressions**

Right out of the box, the Apex Pro TKL strikes a balance between sleek and functional design. The packaging felt premium, and the keyboard itself had an impressive weight to it, which gives confidence in its sturdiness. The RGB lighting was vibrant but not over the top, giving it a modern look without feeling too flashy.

**Build Quality & Design**

From my perspective, SteelSeries nailed it with the build quality. The frame feels solid, and the PBT keycaps have a nice texture that doesn’t wear off over time, which is something I’ve encountered with other keyboards. The compact tenkeyless design also helps save space on my desk, which is a plus considering my workspace can get cluttered with other gaming gear.

**Performance & Daily Use**

Now for the juicy bits: performance. The OmniPoint switches are truly a game changer. I was surprised at how adjustable the actuation points are. For gaming, I set it so I barely need to touch the key for it to register, which is a significant advantage in frenetic first-person shooters. On the other hand, for typing, I cranked it up a notch to prevent accidental keystrokes while writing emails.

I found the transition between gaming and work seamless. The rapid trigger feature works brilliantly; I noticed a lot fewer errors while gaming, and quick commands felt snappier. Daily use has been comfortable too; the wrist rest, although basic, offers decent support during long sessions.

**Who This Is Best For**

The Apex Pro TKL is aimed at those who immerse themselves in gaming or heavy typing demands. If you play competitive games and need an edge, or if you’re a writer looking for a smooth experience, I think this keyboard delivers on both fronts. However, if you are just looking for a simple keyboard for casual use, the high price tag may not justify the features.

**Pros and Cons**

The pros definitely outweigh the cons for me. The adjustable actuation, solid build, and aesthetic appeal are huge wins. However, on the downside, the price is on the higher end of the spectrum, and while the software is powerful, I found it a bit overwhelming at first. It took some trial and error to customize the RGB lighting to my liking. Also, the lack of a dedicated number pad might be a drawback for some.

**Final Verdict**

Overall, I’m really pleased with the SteelSeries Apex Pro TKL Gen 3 keyboard. It brings a lot to the table with its unique features and reliable build quality. If you’re serious about your gaming or typing, this could very well be the keyboard you’ve been searching for. I would recommend it to anyone looking to level up their setup, but be ready to pay a bit more for the quality.

Great for the price, feels great!
Bought this for my son for Xmas and he is a big gamer. I was lucky enough to try it and it is awesome. I love gaming as well and the Feel, looks, and ergonomics of this keyboard cannot be beat. The keys feel responsive and smooth. The actuator slider is amazing, it will either make your key strokes more or less sensitive to pressure so in FPS games is can be a real game changer. The RGB is nice and pretty standard. I do like that they sent a wrist support. I can no longer play M&K due to tendonitis in my arm, so anything that supports better ergonomics, especially for younger players is a bonus. The Keyboard is smaller in size and feels very sturdy. My son goes through keyboards like tennis shoes, and this one seems like it is built to last.I really enjoy this keyboard and if I could still use M&K I would buy on for myself!

    Possible Apex of Keyboards (aha)
It’s sleek, it feels good, and it’s better than every other Razer thing I’ve ever used.I bought this because a brand new keyboard that I’ve kind of relied on being the Razer Black Widow it is basically become the worst thing to game with on the planet. Contrary to popular belief I do actually enjoy the clickiness of most keyboards but this one doesn’t have it nearly as much and is much quieter. It’s quite a bit more responsive when connecting to its third party software, which is actually built well, so programming it to do what you need it to do is actually do it fairly easy. After gaming on it as soon as I opened it up for about 29 hours straight it showed no signs of odd behavior. Long-term thinking if you’re trying to clean this thing, the keys are not surrounded by a housing so getting to them is relatively easy.

Exceptional Performance and Smooth Replacement Experience
The SteelSeries Apex Pro Gen 3 is an outstanding keyboard with an excellent typing and gaming experience. The OmniPoint 3.0 HyperMagnetic switches feel incredibly smooth and responsive, and the adjustability really makes a difference for both gaming and everyday use. Build quality is premium, and it looks great on the desk.My original unit did arrive broken, which was disappointing, but the recovery experience was very positive. After contacting SteelSeries, they quickly directed me to work through Amazon. Since I purchased it on sale, I wanted to make sure I kept the same price—and Amazon handled everything flawlessly, shipping a replacement right away.I’ve now been using the replacement for a few months with no issues, and it’s been performing exactly as expected. Despite the initial hiccup, the keyboard itself and the resolution process make this an easy recommendation.

Unreal feel and performance — my new go-to gaming keyboard
I recently upgraded to this keyboard and I honestly don’t see how anyone could give it anything less than 5 stars. My previous keyboard was a fully mechanical unit with Cherry MX Brown switches, so I had a good benchmark—and this one absolutely stands out.The keystrokes are super fast and precise—if you’ve ever watched keyboard ASMR videos and thought “I want that,” this is it.Gaming performance is fantastic. Every input feels responsive, smooth, and satisfying. Uses USB-C for modern, reliable connection. One of the killer features is the adjustable actuation pressure: I can dial in exactly how far I need to press a key (0.1mm to 4.0 mm) range, and that significantly reduces accidental key-presses.The lighting quality is excellent. The customizable RGB effects are rich and make it easy to match the keyboard to any build or desk setup. The form factor and build feel premium: the tenkeyless layout keeps things compact (my desktop is less cluttered) and the materials feel incredibly solid.I’m completely sold on this keyboard! It is the perfect fir for those who heavily type for long hours or a gamer looking to maximize their setup.Overall rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)In my experience, this keyboard delivers an exceptional blend of feel, responsiveness, customization, and build quality. If you’ve been looking for a keyboard that not only works great but feels great to use every day—this is one of the best I’ve tried.

    perfect keyboard. go for it.
perfect keyboard for any gamer.keys sound so nice and creamy.the actuation is programmable so you can be either super precise or have extra room to play with.heavy, sure, but again you aren’t going to be moving it much.build quality – amazing.. almost. the media button feels a bit mushy.. it may be a bit loose. by the way it’s loose on both of my apex pro Gen 3s.the display is actually useful since you can configure the whole keyboard just from that. you can also add images to it or gifs to it which is pretty cool. though it has to be black and white. there is no colour and it doesn’t have greyscale.leds are pretty bright and look super satisfying. i personally have the pudding keys from steelseries which i would recommend, they look so good.software is a pain i cant lie, sometimes can be a bit hard to go through.also its so damn expensive.. though i can’t lie its worth it. i’ve stuck with steelseries keyboards since the first keyboard i ever got. i’ve always used steelseries apex keyboards, all others felt like they were missing something. and they were. it was the display. i always miss the display.the display is quite responsive but the refresh rate is clearly low.

  6. Peter

Very responsive for pure FPS gaming.

  7. Clark

seriously a 100% worth it purchase. received it in the middle of a valorant game, switched keyboard mid game. complete difference from my last keyboard! loving it thus far!
