In-Depth Review

I’ve always loved grilling and using different types of grills, but when I saw the TITAN GREAT OUTDOORS Ash & Ember Santa Maria Grill, I knew I had to give it a try. The whole Argentine-style open fire grilling concept just sounded too intriguing to pass up. With grilling season winding down, I decided to set it up in my backyard for a weekend cookout with friends.

As soon as I unpacked the grill, my first impression was that it was a beast! The heavy-duty design speaks to its quality. The materials used—casting iron and stainless steel—immediately gave me the confidence that this grill could handle some serious cooking. Also, the adjustable cooking grate and flywheel intrigued me; it seemed like it would allow for precise temperature control, which is essential for grilling meat.

Once I got it set up, I was really impressed with the build quality. Everything felt solid and well-constructed. There’s a certain aesthetic charm to the classic look of the cast iron combined with the sleek stainless steel components. The dimensions, at 29 x 29 x 58.5 inches, mean it fits nicely in even smaller backyards, though it still feels substantial enough to make a statement.

When it came to performance, the grill did not disappoint. The first time I fired it up, I was amazed at how quickly it heated up. I opted to grill some steaks and veggies, and adjusting the cooking height was a breeze. The flywheel worked smoothly, allowing me to raise and lower the grate with ease. I noticed that the cast iron skillet that came with it held the heat exceptionally well, making it great for searing and perfecting the char on my veggies. The flavor added by open-fire cooking is something you can’t replicate with standard gas grills. Everything came out delicious—and my friends were impressed!

If you’re someone who enjoys outdoor cooking and wants to step up your grilling game, I genuinely think this grill is fantastic for you. It’s perfect for backyard barbecues, gatherings, or even just some quiet cook time for the family. If you’re the kind of person who loves authentic grilled flavors, this grill will surely not disappoint.

However, there are a couple of things to keep in mind. For one, while the grill is sturdy, its weight—around 92 pounds—isn’t the most portable. It’s definitely a “set it and forget it” type of grill. Also, assembly took a bit of time; I recommend having a friend help out if you can, especially when positioning the heavier pieces.

In summary, the TITAN GREAT OUTDOORS Ash & Ember Grill has its pros and cons. The build quality is excellent, it performs well, and the flavor it delivers is exceptional. My only concerns are its weight and the assembly process, but those are minor when weighed against the grilling experience it provides.

If you’re ready to add some authentic Argentine flavor to your dinners or weekend cookouts, I would definitely recommend giving this grill a shot. Just be prepared for some serious grilling fun!

Can’t believe this isn’t more popular
Handsome, solid, and well built. Easy to assemble with a couple of wrenches. It’s mostly nut and bolt assembly with screw on self-leveling feet and wingnuts for the legs. The grill grate is super heavy so I can see why they didn’t make this much bigger. It’s a great balance of value and quality. I just love it.I bought 4 boxes of Rutland fire bricks to line the inside and used 3 boxes + 1 brick. Cutting bricks is a challenge due to the octagonal shape but I managed to mosaic some small pieces to make them fit with a hammer and chisel. I use a charcoal chimney as a brasero and keep it close on the side for when I need more embers.Cons:- Can’t really find any cons if you know what you’re getting. Again, it’s an amazing balance for quality and value.Wishes:I get that this design is a great balance between portability and solid duty, so these are just my own personal preferences for my situation. Maybe I’ll mod it down the line.- Wish it had wheels for portability around the patio.- Wish it had a bottom surface under the grill for firewood/fuel.- That’s all really.Pros:- Insanely good value for money. You’re not going to find a better bang for your buck open fire grill this well built.- Simple design and mechanism that works well.- Portable. You can take off the legs and pop this in the back of a truck or minivan no problem.- Heavy duty.- Great size.

Compact, well built, and easy to put together.
Shipped immediately. Instructions were clear and very easy to put together – it took me about 30 minutes. Very well made and a great value. Was a great option where I wanted to add the live fire component to my backyard kitchen but didnt have/want the full size Santa Maria option/component. Bought a nice-ish wife-color-approved canvas tarp for a “cover” and works great with a couple of bungees to secure it.

multiple pieces to install without directions
although the unit is what i was looking for, the manua only shows a photo of the grill yet there are multiple screws, washers and 2 extra pipes . Ihave contact Ash and Ember multiple times and all i get is an automated email response which says nothing of benefit. Also, the grilll does not drop down below the topos the basin level which is not far enogh down for briquets and the poles which it attaches to have considerable play so the grill tips approximately 15 degrees.

    Need better quality check
This thing arrived with a completely rusted grate, which customer service was quick to mail out a replacement. Problem is the second one arrived rusted as well, not as bad as the first though. I realized they would all be rusted if I requested a replacement so I took the least rusted one and went to work on removing the rust so that it would be safe to cook on. Once that was done and we were finally able to use it, we noticed that it started to warp from the heat. The left side where the hinges for the access for cleaning is located warped quite a bit.

    Solid performance
Great for searing/reverse searing. 5 stars if pulley was smoother and could lower the grate down to touch burning coals,Cannot find cover to fit it.
