Asher Black: A Fake Fiancée Mafia Romance Novel (The Five Syndicates)
In-Depth Review
I picked up *Asher Black: A Fake Fiancée Mafia Romance Novel* because, frankly, I was in the mood for something light and escapist. My reading list is usually packed with non-fiction, historical accounts, or sci-fi, but sometimes I just want to dive into a story that’s a bit of a guilty pleasure. I had heard about the ‘Fake Fiancée’ trope quite a bit online, and this book seemed like it could hit the right notes, so I gave it a shot.
Right off the bat, I was intrigued by the premise. The main character, a seemingly ordinary woman, is thrown into the chaotic world of the mafia, which promises drama, romance, and of course, the thrill of the unexpected. I found myself eager to see how she would navigate this wild life and what kind of connection she’d develop with the enigmatic mobster, Asher Black.
As for the first impressions, the writing style felt direct and engaging. The author did a solid job of pulling me into the story without a lot of fluff. I was quickly able to picture the characters and environments. The pace felt good, though at times it seemed to rush through certain plot points while spending just the right amount of time on building tension between the two leads.
Moving on to the build quality and design of the book, I read the e-book version. It was formatted well, and everything was easy to read, which is crucial when you want to get lost in a story. The cover art is also eye-catching—definitely something that stands out in a digital library.
When it comes to performance, if we’re talking about how it kept me entertained, I’d say it performed like a champion. I found myself flipping through the pages quickly in a way that felt both thrilling and a little addictive. The emotional ups and downs of the characters felt believable, and the drama was heightened enough to keep me hooked. It’s also worth noting that while the romance is a big part of the story, it’s cleverly intertwined with elements of suspense and intrigue, making it more than just a typical romance novel.
Now, who is this book best for? Honestly, if you enjoy romance novels that offer a mix of excitement, perhaps with a side of danger, then you’re likely to find yourself enjoying this one. It’s perfect for those days when you need a distraction or when you’re looking for something that lets you escape reality. While this may not be something I’d recommend to my buddies in the same way I’d suggest a thriller, I could definitely see a wide range of readers, especially women, finding this to be entertaining.
As for the pros and cons, I’d say the strengths of this book lie in its engaging writing and the relatable inner struggles of the characters. The combination of romance and mafia elements kept things quite interesting. However, on the flip side, there were moments where I felt certain plotlines could have been developed further; some sequences resolved a touch too quickly for my liking. The characters, while relatable, sometimes felt like they could have used a bit more depth.
In conclusion, *Asher Black: A Fake Fiancée Mafia Romance Novel* is a fun read that serves its purpose well. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, which makes it a great escape that anyone can enjoy, as long as you’re aware of what you’re diving into. Whether you’re lounging at home or looking for something to read during your daily commute, this novel could be just the ticket for a quick trip into the adrenaline-fueled world of romance and organized crime.

Asher Black…Love Mafia Romances…Loved this Novella
This is the story of Asher Aaron Black and Lucy Ives. This is a romantic mafia novel and I just love Mafia stories. This story has a lot of romance and drama in this story. I actually like this story because it starts out with these two young people meeting at a nightclub and it goes from there. We find out that Lucy doesn’t even know who her parents are, she is a product of the Foster Care system and Asher is raised by this man named Vincent Romano who is a capo with the Romano family. He is the product of a junkie mother and a pimp father and so Vincent took him in and raised him as his own because he did not have children. He helped to save Vincent’s life when there was a hit put out on him. No one knew he lived with Vincent and so Asher actually took out the people who plotted to kill Vince that night. I love this type of story; it deals with mafia characters with a twist. He is the owner of a night club called Rouge and Lucy and her roommate go out to dance and have fun right before their classes started at Wilton College. Luch and Aimee are transfers from another school. Lucy is there on scholarship. So, they decided to go out and party before classes started and she runs into Asher when she is standing out the back of the club because she thought she was having a panic attack because it was crowded in the club. Their meeting that evening led to other situations, and this sets out with Asher trying to find her because he thinks she knows something that she really doesn’t, and she finds out that Asher is a billionaire. I really enjoyed this story of intrigue, sex and drama, so much drama. I loved this novella, and I would recommend this book because I am definitely ready to read some more books in this the Five Syndicates series. I really loved this story and would highly recommend this Parker S. Huntington book.

It is only a 3 or should I round up to 4.
Did I love this story? I’m not sure.I loved the blurb. I wanted to love the book. It’s worth the price & time, especially if you are a KU member. There are some great lines in this book:”If you’re going to be two-faced, at least make one of them pretty.”–Asher”I haven’t survived anything. I’m still trying to survive. It’s an ongoing process that is quickly approaching its end.”-LucyThere are references to modern pop culture, that are well done.At times the story is ‘over the top’ and unbelievable (oral sex in a NY alley when you don’t know each others names?). The interaction between Asher and Lucy in Chapter Two is ‘heavy handed’.Asher Black was a mafia enforcer, who left it behind to become a legitimate businessman and when his position as CEO is jeopardized he devises a plan to hire a fake fiance. When Lucy Ives ‘interrupts’ the interview, she becomes the logical replacement in Asher’s eyes. He is viciously protective of those he considers his. (I hate that the term MATE is used). He is wicked smart. Great looking (of course). Shows his vulnerability (eventually). With Lucy, he is tender and caring (when no one is looking)…..So, when the intimate scene arises I was put off that he would chock her during sex.Lucy Ives is hiding from her past. Trauma from being in the foster care system, which the author portrays in a negative light through most of the book. (Personal note I was a licensed Foster Parent for over a decade. So, this trope is a burr in my blanket.) THEN the author writes “Jumping from foster home to foster home is like traveling the world in so many ways. You’re exposed to such a diverse group of people and get to learn from the experiences that give you” I almost want to forgive the earlier comments about foster homes. The author has some really good scenes. One of my favorites is between Rene (the man set on ruining Asher) who brings Lucy’s abusive former foster parent to a company dinner. She faces her demons and it is GREAT!The sexual tension between Asher and Lucy at times is boring and stale & other it’s ridiculous (The shower scene.)We get it Lucy you are conflicted. (Insert eye roll). Aimee, Lucy’s best friend is a hoot and I wish there was more of her weaved into the story. Xavier, Lucy’s bodyguard, was more mysterious than Asher. BTW, We never learn Lucy’s true identity (She changed her name when she aged out of Foster Care). ALSO it is hard to believe she would enjoy being dominated (strangled) during sex. (Don’t forget she’s been a victim before). Was not a fan of the formatting of the text messages within the content of the story.Found some grammatical issues (cleverer & tensest) & (him instead of he) along with slipping from tense to tense.I’m not sure if I will read the second book.

A must read first novel
This is the first book in the Five Syndicates series, as well as a first novel for Parker S. Huntington, and a must read for fans of fake engagement, mafia enemies to lovers romance novels. We meet Lucy Ives, a college student who gets into hot water on her first day back in college, after spending two years volunteering abroad. She calls 911 because of her concern for a woman in the club where she and her roommate have gone to celebrate their first day back at Wilton University, a prestigious Ivy League school in New York. She believes the woman is being threatened by a thug, who turns out to be security for the club’s owner, Asher Black, a notorious “fixer” for the Romano crime family. Asher finds her after searching for the mysterious 911 caller, intending to “deal” with her. He changes his opinion of her after spending a day attending lectures with her, and makes her an offer she can’t refuse: become his fake fiance so he can show the Board of Directors of Black Enterprises that he is “settling down” and should remain CEO. Lucy agrees, and from that moment on, her life changes drastically as she and Asher attempt to fool the board members trying to oust him from his company. There is plenty of excitement and twists and turns throughout the book, making it a book you won’t want to put down. Lucy is sassy and smart, and quickly became one of my favorite FMCs. Asher is a gorgeous man, a genius and a billionaire, on a mission to save his company from his enemies. Don’t miss this first book in the Five Syndicates series. I’m looking forward to reading the entire series!

This is so well written – a writer who is clearly in love with words. I found myself diving into the dictionary on more than one occasion… the quotes at the start of each chapter are inspiring and from a wide and interesting source. The characters are intelligent, interesting and develop through the story. This is the 2nd book I’ve read from this author and definitely won’t be the last.

I loved this book! I loved the story and the message, which is one of bravery, courage, and empowerment. I liked it so much that I’m gonna binge on the rest of the books already published in this series, I just purchased them all.In the story, the heroine, Lucy, struggles with bravery. She feels she always runs away from all of her problems and then she meets the hero, Asher, and he becomes one of the problems she’s determined not to run away from. This is her first time fighting through her problems, and by being a spectator (reader) of her struggle we get all the messages about courage and the things that are worth fighting for. Very well written. I really enjoyed this read. Also, I need to mention the marvelous printing of the book, wow, great job, the book is full of quality photography, stylish bicolor pages, wonderful quotes at the beginning of each chapter, all tied up together so nicely that it just completes the amazing experience that reading this was, no doubt this was worth every penny. I really appreciate that extra care that was put into the publishing of this book, you can tell she put a lot of effort and care into this. And guess what, this is her first released novel.I definitely recommend this author!

Asher and Lucy meet in absurd circumstances where there are 100% chances of them becoming enemies and Asher killing her but just the opposite happens. He offers her a deal. The one she can’t seem to refuse and from there starts a journey of a happily ever after that was meant to be. The way she stands up for him has my heart and the way he would take a bullet to keep her safe was mind-blowing. A good one!
