In-Depth Review
I recently picked up the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2, and I figured I’d share my thoughts after using it as my daily driver for a few weeks now. As a regular guy in my mid-30s, I appreciate gadgets that make my life easier without the fluff.
From the moment I unboxed the Surface Laptop Studio 2, I was surprised by how sleek it looked. It’s got a premium feel to it. The design is modern and professional, with that unique floating hinge that lets you use it in multiple modes—laptop, stage, and tablet. I wasn’t too sure about the convertible feature at first, but it turns out to be pretty useful.
Let’s talk build quality. The body is made of aluminum which gives it a sturdy feel. No creaky hinges or cheap plastic here. It has a solid weight to it without feeling overly heavy. It weighs around 4.37 pounds, making it relatively portable for a laptop of this size. I’ve tossed it in my bag and carried it around without any issues. The touchpad is spacious, and the keys are well-spaced, providing good feedback when typing.
Performance-wise, this thing is a beast. It’s powered by the Intel Core i7 (13th Gen), which means it handles everyday tasks like browsing, streaming, and even some heavier applications without breaking a sweat. I’ve used it for photo editing, and it loads large files smoothly. The 16 GB RAM is a game-changer for multitasking. I’ve run multiple apps and tabs without any lag—it’s fluid.
Battery life has also been impressive—Microsoft claims up to 18 hours, and while I haven’t tested it that extensively, I can easily get a full day’s use out of it without needing a charge. That’s especially nice for my trips to coffee shops or working from home.
Now, who would this be best for? Honestly, I think it suits anyone from students to professionals—a solid choice if you want a versatile machine. If you’re someone who loves to draw or design, the touchscreen and Surface Pen compatibility are a major plus. For casual users, it’s excellent for streaming, browsing, and office work.
There are, however, a few drawbacks I’d like to mention. The price is on the higher side, and while you get a lot of features, it’s still an investment. If you’re not going to use the convertible abilities often, you might find cheaper options that meet your needs. The lack of USB-A ports could be a hassle for those still using older devices or peripherals. You’ll need a dongle or adapter for those.
Overall, there’s a lot to love about the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio 2. It’s well-built, highly versatile, and powerful enough for most tasks. The pros outweigh the cons significantly—if you’re in the market for a new laptop, this one’s worth considering.
In summary, if you’re looking for a laptop that combines performance with flexibility, you can’t go wrong here. Just be prepared to pay a bit more, and you’ll likely be pleased with your purchase.

The Good, The Bad & The Frustrating
5 stars for the seller who included contact numbers in case trouble arose. 2 stars for MS set up system. It would clearly connect to the internet, then when I clicked next, it said no internet access. This appears to be a common problem with this model. I contacted the seller & requested a return. After a couple hours I got fed up and contacted the seller for a return. Later I did get it working. I don’t remember what I did. I got a text today from the seller about setting up the return. I canceled the return so I could leave this review. I’ll use it a while longer & keep it if that’s the only problem. Also 5 stars for the build of the machine. The convertible screen is just what I wanted. It’s heavier than most laptops but it feels durable. I’m sure because of the aluminum frame. 14.4” screen is the perfect size.
