In-Depth Review

I’ve had my eye on high-end TVs for a while now, but when I finally decided to jump in and get my living room a serious upgrade, I took the plunge with the Sony 75 Inch 8K Ultra HD TV from the Z9K series. It’s been about a month since I set it up, and I’ve put it through its paces, so here’s my honest take on it.

Right out of the box, the first thing that struck me was the sheer size of this beauty. At 75 inches, it feels massive in my living room, which is exactly what I was hoping for. The slim bezels give it a modern touch, letting the screen take center stage. It has a sleek, minimalist design that complements the style of my home without overshadowing it.

Now, let’s talk build quality and design. The Sony Z9K feels solid. It has a sturdy stand that holds it up with confidence, and although it’s a bit heavy at 138.7 pounds, it didn’t seem too challenging to set up with a second pair of hands. I appreciate the attention to detail, with nice finishes that don’t feel cheap. The materials used feel premium, which is exactly what you expect at this price point.

As for performance, wow! This TV does not disappoint. The 8K resolution is sharp enough to put my old TV to shame, and it has stunning color accuracy. Movies and shows pop off the screen, especially those with HDR content. I’ve really enjoyed watching everything from action flicks to nature documentaries. The upscaling technology is impressive too—older content looks surprisingly good. During my gaming sessions with the PlayStation 5, the exclusive features really came into play, providing a fantastic experience with low input lag and vibrant colors that immerse you in the gameplay.

I think this TV is best suited for gamers and cinephiles alike. If you’re someone who loves to watch movies with friends or delve into vivid game worlds, this is a solid option. The integrated Google TV makes it easy to browse through various streaming services, and the voice search works smoothly, helping me find shows without much hassle.

However, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. One of the downsides I encountered is the price tag. This isn’t a budget-friendly option, and I know that many would find it hard to justify the expense. In addition, while the sound quality is decent, I found myself yearning for an external sound system to really lift the audio experience during intense movie scenes.

Pros include the gorgeous display quality, effective upscaling, and great gaming performance, particularly with the PlayStation 5. However, cons to consider would be the high price and average built-in audio quality.

To sum it all up, the Sony 75 Inch 8K Ultra HD TV Z9K Series is an impressive blend of size, clarity, and smart features that will elevate any home entertainment setup. If you have the budget and are keen on future-proofing your home with cutting-edge tech, then this is a worthy addition. Just be prepared to spend a little extra on sound equipment if you’re looking for that truly immersive experience.

    TV is incredible!
Unbelievable picture and sound quality! Huge step up from our 12 year old 55” tv.

    Amazing screen, less smart electronics
Initial review: it has an amazing screen but the smart features are lacking compared to past Bravia models. It has an 8k screen but the internal android TV can only drive a 4k picture.Networking Update: The internal WiFi is what most people will use and it’s okay. Nerds like me like to use ethernet when possible, especially for large data hogs like 4K HDR HD media. The built in ethernet port sucks. Sony should be ashamed. You can get a USB3 Ethernet adapter that uses a compatible internal chipset and get much better performances. I got the TP-Link UE300 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00YUU3KC6 and wow that is an improvement. The adapter needs to use the RTL8153 chipset. See r/bravia on reddit if you need more info.Running some network speed tests I got: Internal Ethernet 88 Mbps, Internal WiFi 246 Mbps, and USB Ethernet 660 Mbps.UPDATE: There is a setting buried in Network Settings called “Remote Start” and when enabled you can use your phone/smart device to power on the TV but it also seems the TV uses much more power when “off” if this feature is enabled. (CORRECTED: I cannot use my voice assistant to power on the TV if it’s been idle for a while. Bravia’s from years past I’ve been able to use my android phone or Google assistant to power on the TV, this one I have to use the physical remote. First of first world problems, but man I paid a lot of this only for it to be less “smart” than older TV’s in the brand.)

    amazing picture
I’m super happy with this purchase. The picture quality is amazing even in a living room that has two walls of windows. Well done, Sony.

    Awesome Screen
I bought the 85 inch from a different merchant famous for selling electronics.I’ve had it for two months and the screen is the best I have ever seen.Update February 28, 2024- I bought the 85 inch in May 2023. As of February 2024 the tv is still spectacular with no issues.Love it!

  7. Amazon Customer

Great picture, poor wired ethernet connection
One thing to say about picture quality- it’s simply great- 5/5. Wired ethernet connection is only 100 mbs, totally unacceptable for a tv that costs $10K (85″). Most people won’t care, but it is a miss for those who may want to stream 4K video locally through their wired ethernet connection. 4K video can often peak well above 100 mbs and can cause stuttering and buffering. Why Sony didn’t spend another $1 to put in a standard 1gbs wired ethernet jack on a $10K tv is crazy to me. Enough to not buy a Sony in the future. 5/5 for display quality and 1/1 for ethernet connectivity (for those who care), so 3/5 overall.

  8. Riotgirrl73

Great picture, cable control/organization, Glare issue
The picture is fantastic, WIFI works great and setup was pretty easy. Not crazy about the camera attachment but I opted out of using it, so I might not get the full Dolby experience with my Sony Dolby Atmos soundbar. The only real downside is that it’s virtually impossible to watch with any sun. The glare is worse than any TV I’ve ever owned previously, and I can’t move it from its current location due to the size. (There is actually media playing in the photo attached)
